In prokaryotes, an Intergenic region is a stretch of genome located between genes (also called “spacer”). In statistical analysis, the space between two adjacent CDSs (protein-coding genes/open reading frames) are usually considered. As the intergenic gene gets shorter, the more compactly packed the genes are in a particular genome.
